Meet Trailblazer Chef Neecie Maybin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chef Neecie Maybin.

Chef Neecie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always loved food! Since as far back as I can remember, there’s really nothing that I won’t try at least once. But as much as I love food, I care about my health just as much too. One thing that’s always bothered me is when I see people eating “healthier” and their meals consist of a boring little salad and a powerade. Not only is that not providing a substantial amount of nutrients, causing you to be hungry again in the next 5 minutes, but it just doesn’t sound or look good to eat. So that’s what my food blog, WineWeedWife, focuses on; healthy (and some not-so-healthy), delicious, and EASY recipes to make at home. My recipes are health conscious while still being full of flavor. My motto is “eating healthy should NEVER be boring!” because let’s face it, it’s much easier to stick to a plan when you actually enjoy the food you’re eating.

Some recipes include wine pairings, as well as, cannabis-infused as reminders that it’s okay to live a little 😉

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My biggest struggle currently is making the transition from working a full-time desk job to being a full-time personal chef/food blogger. Having a family to provide for means I can’t just up and quit the job that pays the bills. But it also makes me work THAT much harder in my free time to grow my own business.

I’d advise women to not wait for the “right” time to start something. Come up with a solid plan for what you want to do and DO IT! Sometimes that might mean figuring some things out along the way. When I first decided to be a chef, I had no idea that I’d end up teaching classes, but here we are! Trust yourself, follow your gut, and don’t be afraid to make changes to your original plans.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a home chef, first. I’m also a personal chef, I provide intimate dining experiences for clients, as well as, meal prep services. My specialties vary from vegan/vegetarian to weight gain/loss, to low carb, to good ol’ comfort food.

I also teach culinary classes once a month (and private classes upon request), where students can learn to make things like pasta from scratch, different cuisines from around the world, etc. Classes are 100% hands-on and perfect for friends and date-nights. Plus wine is provided!

I’m most proud of the growth and support I’ve received in the short amount of time I’ve been in business. In 1 one year, I’ve accomplished what might take some people years to do, and I’m still growing.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Believe in yourself. Trust yourself. And don’t be intimidated if someone else has already done something similar to what you want to do. There are 50 different brands of bread in the grocery store. Bread. Find your lane and make it your own.
