Meet Trailblazer Diana Di Dia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Di Dia.

Diana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I came from the hospitality background of the industry. Coordinating and working with clients for special events and weddings in some of the most beautiful settings in southern California. My (now) husband was a professional photographer when we met in San Diego, and we began dating shortly thereafter. Our journey brought us to Denver at the beginning of 2018, we ended up getting married here in Denver, and we decided what better way to share our gifts with the world than to combine our skills and do what we love here in our new home! We are so thrilled and excited to capture moments with every new couple, cocktail, hiking trail, puppy, and greasy burger we meet. Colorado is such a beautiful place to be a photographer!

Has it been a smooth road?
I feel like something that is worthwhile to you will always have some bumpy roads along the way, it’s a matter of how much you want it that you persevere and endure the hard times. What’s that old adage… a smooth sea never made a skilled sailor? One of the biggest struggles I feel that young entrepreneurs share is the balance between the job you need to pay bills and the time you can put in towards achieving your goals. Early mornings, late nights, and tons of trial and error will keep you going if you truly have a passion for what you want to achieve. It’s very hard to ignore the haters and doubters along the way, but one of the most valuable tools you can use is to learn to block out these people as they are only there to make your journey harder. Stay true to yourself and what you want in this lifetime, and remember to use the mistakes and f**k-ups as a learning experience. If you keep at it, you will get there!

We’d love to hear more about Something Kitschy Photo.
Something Kitschy Photo is a professional photography service that specializes in wedding, engagement, portrait, lifestyle, food, and cocktail photography. We absolutely love meeting new couples, getting to know them along the way, and being able to share that final gallery of such amazing memories with them after it’s all said and done. Both myself and my husband have a background in the food and cocktail industries, and stylizing new and innovative concoctions with Denver’s amazing craft scene is one of our favorite things. The work perks of these photoshoots are always a bonus, I get spoiled with some of the great things that I get to sample on the job!

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I feel that the stigma of males dominating business and the workplace has lingered far longer than is actually the case. There are so many awesome lady bosses in every industry today and that idea that males are behind it all is (slowly) fading and females are beginning to be recognized as the bosses they are. There are so many female CEO’s, founders, brilliant entrepreneurs, and artists, that I feel have no bearing on whether someone should be judged by gender. If you’re good, you’re good. Do what you do and love, do it well, treat people right, and your time will come if you persevere.
