Meet Trailblazer Elizabeth Fehringer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Fehringer.

Elizabeth, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my photography business, Elizabeth Jane Photography, as a recent high school graduate. I started my “career” in high school working for other photographers and doing little shoots here and there but decided to start an official business before I went to college. I majored in Photography with a minor in business and UNC in Greeley and continued working throughout college and a few years after I graduated from college, I was a full-time, self-employed photographer.

For photographers, the new year brings a slow season until spring so I tend to have some free time to do some new things. In 2018 that was when I started sewing I was making outfits for my newborn shoots and started making clothing for myself and everyone asked me to make them something too, so I started Liza Jane Co. I design clothing and specialize in custom clothing for women who find they’re not one size from head to toe or are not considered average height in the eyes of designers.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’d be lying if I said any business was smooth sailing. I’ve been in the photography business for over ten years and have had amazing years and have had some really rough years, but you always have to remember why you do what you do. When things are rough, take time to look back at why you started. Markets will change, life will throw curveballs, and faithful customers will go somewhere else, but you always have to look at the positives in business or you’ll never make it out alive.

We’d love to hear more about Elizabeth Jane Photography and Liza Jane Co.
Your love. Your story is my mission for Elizabeth Jane Photography and I want your photos to show exactly that. I am a photographer for those who are no longer here and those who are not here yet. In the end of your life or the end of a loved one’s life, it’s the photos that you tend to look back on, and I strive to create photos that will be remembered for ever. I specialize in weddings, families, and babies. I have photographed over 100 weddings, and I LOVE watching my clients grow as individuals and from two people into a family.

For Liza Jane Co, I work with my customers to create an item that looks, fits, and feels exactly how they want and if it’s not right, I’ll do what I can to make it right. I am 5’11” and have the wingspan of a monkey. Finding pants that aren’t high-waters and sleeves that aren’t 3/4 sleeve have been the bane of my existence since I was a kid. I’ve always had to buy shirts that were way too big so the sleeves were long enough or my belly wasn’t hanging out, but I shouldn’t have to. Shopping as a woman can be painful sometimes if you don’t fit the standards. When I create clothes for women, I do custom sizing so their shirt fits their small bust but larger hips or vice versa. Liza Jane Co is made to fit YOU.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
Thats a tough one, but honestly, I would have to say my fellow photographers and seamstresses are constantly posting photos that stretch my creativity, but also give me confidence that I can do anything. They’re my competition, but they’re also my cheerleaders.
