Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazzy Gillette.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jazzy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started playing tennis when I was the age of 12. Growing up, I was always in love with the idea of sports and doing something active. It wasn’t until I got into high school when I really began to spread my wings. Freshman year, I played on the varsity team at Arvada West HS. Senior year I really came into my own with tennis, capturing the local news in Denver at in Boulder. Now that I am an adult, I’ve pushed myself to go even further with coaching and playing tournaments at the same time. Hard work and doing your best is the key to success in my opinion.
Has it been a smooth road?
Being well-known in the tennis world of Colorado holds quite a standard. Always having to be on your game and put on a show. Sometimes it works, most of the time you’re grinding to keep your head up. When I graduated high school, it was truly a wake up call with how good the adult levels are. Everything is faster, stronger, and just all-around better. I got my butt kicked a lot throughout the years but it’s how you take those losses and learn from them.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Tennis started out as a hobby, now it’s my full-time job! Coaching and making people smile is my calling. I work hard with my tennis game but now I can help people out with theirs and we have so much fun in the process. Laughing and having a good time is what I’m known for when I coach. It’s become such a blessing to know that people enjoy not only my coaching but me as a person.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
The best advice I can give is you never know what is going to come your way on whichever path you choose. But you can always make the most of it by smiling and being happy and enjoying the process. Just keep moving forward and eventually you will go to the place you’ve always wanted to go.
