Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Mosquera.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jennifer. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
This tale of artist turned deputy district attorney turned artist is too long to tell in this format. But what I can tell you is that I was born an artist, and I got lost along the way because I listened to well-intended people instead of myself. Each leg of this journey has included excitement, discovery and learning to love myself more and then, recreating myself to take another step forward, closer to who I truly am.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Oh no… I actually do not believe in such a thing. Finding your way takes knowing yourself. And thus far, I have found that to be a continuous process. And as I learn about myself and grow, I change in what I think I want or need. That is the only constant, change. The struggles always tend to be having to grow or change course when I am not in alignment with myself or work or relationships. The advice I have for young women and what I would tell my younger self is, KNOW YOURSELF. Begin a beautiful and loving relationship with yourself where you embrace everything, strong or otherwise. Love all of it. Have a beautiful dialogue of what you need with yourself. Once you can listen to that voice and trust it, it will all fall into place.
We’d love to hear more about Prismajic.
I am the Chief Creative of Prismajic, a local company that creates immersive environments and experiences. We are known for Natura Obscura, currently exhibiting at the Museum Of Outdoor Arts in Englewood, Colorado. I am most proud that we are a group of creative people that are committed to being excellent. We take our own skills and attributes and weave them together collectively to create beautiful realms, where exploration and wonder envelop the explorer. We strive for that journey to be thought to provoke, dazzling and engaging while hoping to meet their hearts on a journey that is personal. At its deepest level, Natura Obsura is an allegory, where the guest is the protagonist, on the path through their life. They get to explore their inner selves through a metaphor of a beautiful surrealist forest and discover different elements of themselves and the world along that path.
What sets us apart is how we create. Creating a vision that a team can get behind is the first step. Than striving to identify each person’s majic and create an environment in which we can let that special quality shine, is next. These two steps help create an environment where we all rely on one another, and that develops respect that creates a cohesive team. And in the case of Natura, it created a team that loves one another, which and exceeded all expectations of what I thought could be done. It was incredible to see how beautiful a group of people come together in such a short time, and I learned so much from each of them.
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
In life, they are all around you. Anyone in your life serves as an example or a lesson. If you find someone that inspires you, follow them. If you want to learn from them help them, an intern with them or work with them. Watch them. Inevitably you will learn how to and how not to from each of them. Each of these lessons will be invaluable as you walk your path. As for me, yes, it is invaluable. No one knows everything, and people all have different attributes that I learn from. Friends, family, public figures all have lessons to teach. I pay attention and am constantly learning. I take what makes sense to me and incorporate that into how and who I want to be.
