Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Berliner.
Julie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Sweet Grass actually started in my home kitchen in Boulder, Colorado. I would bake and infuse the cookies myself then hand-deliver them to my friend’s dispensary down the street. From there, we grew to our first commercial space which, amidst changing regulations, came in the form of a red race car trailer in case we had to move at the drop of a hat. Today, that same trailer stands tall and proud in our Denver facility which distributes to over 400 dispensaries across the state as a reminder of just how far we’ve come.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s never a smooth road, but that’s when we learn the most. I think back to when I started Sweet Grass and wonder if I would have done it had I known what it was actually going to be like… to be clear, it’s not that I wouldn’t have done it, but I wouldn’t have thought that I could do it. If I’ve learned anything in the last decade, it’s that we are capable of doing so much more than we (and often others) give ourselves credit for.
We’d love to hear more about Sweet Grass.
Sweet Grass is a small-batch cannabis bakery that specializes in award-winning cannabutter, CBD, and microdose edibles. We began our journey back in 2009 and with the help of our in-house cultivation, have long prided ourselves on our true crop-to-cookie delivery made special with our very own slow-simmered, triple-strained, full-flower cannabutter. I’m most proud of being part of this amazing piece of history – the cannabis movement.
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
Networking and surrounding yourself with those people who will support you to the end is the best thing you can do. A journey like this would be impossible without the support of your tribe. Each step forward is all of our success – not just mine. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
