Today we’d like to introduce you to Kah Li.
Kah Li, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always loved entertaining people. Growing up I was in some sort of talent show dancing or doing a performance whenever the opportunity was presented to me. I was born in Keywest, Florida but was adopted by colorado when I was 10. I met some life long friends who were also natural-born entertainers. One of my close friends and female artist, Elle Green, started doing music seriously a few years back. I mention to her that maybe I should make a few tracks and release them. The rest is history. I got into performing live and recording my music with professional studios, now I am just constantly growing and letting life do the rest.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not been easy, from men not taking me seriously as a rapper to people flaking on me multiple times despite money being involved. To the women doing this journey; Have fun and ignore the people who are negative! Good friends, family, and team are very important! This is not a race but a marathon, it is okay when things do not go the way you want, There is always another path to take! Take the time and educate yourself on the industry,
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
My true goal in life is to become an astronaut. I’m working hard every day artistically and professionally as I am an aerospace engineer as well. I would love to make music and if I ever did make money from music, use that profit to start myself an aerospace company. Dreams can turn into reality so why not shoot for the stars. What I think makes me stand out as a female rapper is my geeky taste. I love video games and anime (Japanese Animation). I can use my love for that in my music and reach a different audience who also have similar interest. Also, being from a Florida, I love bringing in island vibes like dancehall to my music.
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
The music and aerospace industries there are not enough women in leadership positions. In the music industry, men tend to pit us against each other when in fact we should be helping and growing each other.
