I started Elwynn + Cass, LLC after finishing college in 2015, based on the client experience I had while trying to find reliable and professional hair and makeup artists for special events. I found the process to be impersonal and emotionally taxing. Instead of loving the process of getting beautified for special events, I found it to be frustrating and difficult, so after graduating college, I decided there had to be an easier way. Elwynn + Cass, LLC was born from this desire to make the beauty experience easier and stress-free for clients.

From the moment a client inquires, the process and experienced is personalized to fit the client’s needs (style, budget, location, etc.), as everyone has different styles, wants, needs, etc. Elwynn + Cass is a beauty concierge service, so we personally vet every hair and makeup artist that we would possibly recommend for a client to ensure that they are professional, and exceptional at what they do to provide each client with the experience they deserve.

Today, we work with clients all over the United States and destination locations as well to ensure that everyone has a stress-free and personalized experience.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting and owning a business is never a smooth road or trajectory. Since starting Elwynn + Cass, LLC we have had to pivot multiple times in how the business was structured, the ideal market / client, and processes. For example, we originally started in corporate, and within a year found ourselves in the wedding industry primarily, as that is where clients seemed to struggle the most with finding a personalized process and reliable hair and makeup artists.

My number one piece of advice for other women, young women, and individuals starting a business in general is to be patient. Good things take time, especially if you want them to last. Also, focus on building relationships with other vendors and associates, as when you support one another, incredible partnerships and referral networks happen. Invest in people and that time.

My role as a beauty concierge is to streamline the process for clients, so based on the experience they are looking for, I will match the artists best suited to their needs. I have personally vetted each artist I would recommend and can attest to their professionalism, quality of work and timeliness. Pricing ranges amongst the artists, so once I have an idea of a few additional details, I send over some portfolios/options, along with pricing for the artists that I believe are the best fit for each client. This is to ensure that the experience is personalized to their needs.

From there, if a client wants to move forward with one of the artists, then I set up a trial (if desired), handle the payment and booking to the client’s on their behalf, draft a beauty timeline, and am the main point of contact leading up to the wedding day, that way everything is streamlined and there is never a delay in response.

My business is an entirely new way of approaching beauty services while keeping the personalization so that clients can go about their lives and live them, without worrying about getting a quality service or someone canceling on them. I am essentially assurance for them.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I genuinely feel it’s women not believing in themselves. We all have feelings of self-doubt and not wanting to fail, but if you believe in your idea and are willing to put in hard work, good things will come. Not everyone will believe in you, but only you need to believe in yourself and be patient.
