Meet Trailblazer Kathleen Sargent

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathleen Sargent.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kathleen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story began in 1967 in Ashtabula, OH. My story is not much different from many readers of Voyage Denver Trailblazers. We may have come from different cities, states and addresses, we do share a common bond between most of us – had it not been for the Lord who IS on our side… I will just fast-forward to this season and purpose of my life.

I am currently serving in the Kingdom as Pastor, Administrator, and Founder of A Refuge in the City. I know the first position may curdle some blood and cause many to believe I am completely out of order. This certainly was not a position I ever desired, it is a position that I ran out of running road on before I said a committed yes. I fully counted the cost as many of my predecessors: Amy McPherson, Kathryn Kuhlman, Maria Woodworth-Etter and many others in knowing this position would not be received by many.

A Refuge in the City is truly led by the Holy Spirit. We are a no-judgment zone ministry full of love for God’s people. We are a people who know what it is like to be broken, rejected, abandoned, condemned and even thrown out like trash. It is an honor to serve with these great people.

I have also been blessed with the most amazing daughter! It is an honor indeed to be called ‘mommy’ by this phenomenal gift and miracle. She is my biggest fan, daughter-friend, anointed worship dancer and very intelligent! She has and is truly the fulfilling of her name in my life – GENESIS!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I am cracking up! Smooth road? Smooth – having an even surface or surface so even that no roughness or points are perceptible to the touch; NOT ROUGH; to free from obstruction; to make easy. Uh nope. Not easy at all. One of the top 3 struggles is being committed to being an original. Not allowing others to make you fit their comfort level especially when God chooses that you are one of the ones created beyond the ‘normal’ grid. It’s is a fight sweet one and it is a fight worth fighting. You will find when the rubber and the road meet, they (whoever they are :O) ) will pick you to be on their team.

Whether you are starting out or been in it for a moment, be a person of integrity. If you are a Believer, keep Pappa the center and foundation of all that you do. Stay connected with people that celebrate not tolerate you. Never apologize or feel guilty for being blessed and being a blessing.

If you are not a Believer, everything else still applies to you. I feel like saying, so I will, you is kind, you is smart and you is important! Now, go live, be a gift and make an impact on one life at a time.

We’d love to hear more about A Refuge in the City.
I am an Administrator. I specialize in bringing people from different avenues together for a common purpose and make the vision a reality. I am known for not being your average leader. As a service provider, I am most proud of being an instrument of God to bring to fruition the assignments He gives me to complete. What sets me apart from others is, I am not trying to be like anyone else. I am being who I was and am created to be.

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
Absolutely! I am still growing up and experience is still setting me up to be more successful in every season. I am intentional about learning from life’s trials, joys and otherwise. I also wrote a powerful little book called, ‘From My Heart to Your Heart.’ It is the beginning of a short series that is truly from the heart. There will be a workbook coming with it in the future.

She truly is a gem! She is the realest person you’ll ever meet! Her “Divine INTENTIONAL” attitude makes you ask the question of how anyone can be that way and really mean it. She is not one of those pastors who tell people things they want to hear just to make them feel good. God gave her an assignment to be in this pastoral position to tell the truth to save lives! Her life is an amazing testimony! We need more real life people like her in this day an age! Pastor Kat you are the bom.com!
