Meet Trailblazer Katie Isabelle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Isabelle.

Katie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been a lot of things over the years from hairstylist, communications director, graphic designer, to cake decorator, and even working at a call center. What I’ve loved about each of these job titles has been that they taught me that I love being creative and I love people. Where I have landed now is taking a lot of these weird and seemingly unrelated skills and started an online live-streaming channel with my husband.

We have been doing this for about two years on the platform Twitch.tv (an online gaming community). We started this as just a fun way to hang out and enjoy our hobby of gaming together but it quickly became something much bigger.

We now stream to an average of 120 viewers at any given time and have really been able to focus on creating great content and developing a community that’s focused on building relationships and making a difference in the world.

The stream has really turned into a dream for us. We truly love to see an amazing community of gamers band together to change the world for the better. We focus on positivity, generosity, and helping others, and last year raised several thousand dollars for charity organizations such as To Write Love On Her Arms.

Last year we were featured in a few ads for Coca-Cola that played on the platform, which was such a blessing for us and for our growth, and really helped us start to imagine this becoming our full-time gig.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some things were smooth and some were not. Sometimes as a woman it can be a challenge to be taken seriously, especially in the gaming world.

Having a really good “why” for what you do will help carry you through challenging seasons. Constantly cast the vision of “why” to yourself and remember that your value and success are not measured by the validation of others.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
While I’m one half of the online “talent” when we’re live, I also do a lot behind the scenes. I create all of the graphic design for our stream, I manage most of our social media and edit our videos for YouTube/social media use.

The things I’m most proud of with our stream is that we have the chance to speak into people’s lives everyday and that we can see the fruits of that positivity come through during charity events.

One thing that sets us apart is that we stream as a duo. Most live streamers are solo people, but something we bring to the table is showing a healthy and honest marriage. It’s pretty fun to spend time with my spouse and do everything we can to make our viewers feel welcome.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Really take the time to figure out your why, and learn as much about yourself as you can early on.

If you can figure out what makes you tick and what are your roadblocks, there’s no stopping you!

Personally, I love the Enneagram for this type of self-learning. It helped me understand why I am the way I am and how to help overcome my personal struggles.
