Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexi Bullis.
Lexi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am an Alpine Snowboarder from a small town in Wisconsin called Slinger. Growing up, skiing and snowboarding was a large part of our families lives. In 5th grade, I started ski racing and loved it. My sophomore year of high school, our high school made a snowboard team and I wanted to try it. We had no idea what we were getting into when we started. My stepbrother also raced on the team and my dad ended up being the volunteer coach. That same year, my first year on an alpine snowboard, I ended up taking 4th at USASA nationals in my age group. The following year, I won my state snowboarding, and I won GS and Slalom at nationals in my age group. The following year, I started racing a level up in the snowboard circuit and competed as a US rider. After my senior year of high school, I decided to go to UCCS for my college degree.
The summer before college, I found out that I qualified for the Junior worlds Championships and the 2nd week of my first semester of college, I was in New Zealand competing. In the spring of that season, I qualified and competed at the World Championships in Park City, Utah. The United States Snowboard Racing team is a separate entity from the US snowboard team. All of our athletes fund most of their season by themselves, which makes the expenses add up quickly. I didn’t want to keep asking people to sponsor me and just give me money to use; I wanted to give something back in return. This is how Alpine Soap Company was born. My mom has been making homemade soap ever since I was little. She has always done it on the side for fun and has given it away as presents. Now, you can go on my website and learn about my snowboarding journey, why I started my company and you are able to order all of the products from my website, in which 100% of the funds I make go directly to funding my season.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not always been smooth. Even though it seems and feels like I raised through the ranks of the Snowboard Racing Circuit very quickly, it has taken quite a bit of determination. Throughout my younger years, I was a goalkeeper for soccer, which resulted in a dislocating shoulder that I have to work with. Last year, I was even in the start gate and pulled my shoulder out as I pulled through the gate into the course. Another struggle I had was keeping the motivation to keep up with workouts in the offseason. My advice for other woman that are trying to follow their dreams and are just starting their journey is, even through your goal seems impossible now, if you keep at it and put in the work, you will start to make little breakthroughs that you may not notice right away. Small victories are huge towards making your finally goal.
We’d love to hear more about Alpine Soap Company.
Alpine Soap Company is a Company that makes homemade soap in kitchen batches. We use all natural, vegetable-based ingredients with no harsh dyes or preservatives. My company has many different fragrances of soaps to choose from, and there are seasonal shapes that are available too! We have two different types of soaps as well. In addition to the soaps, we just started a new product. Shower fizzies are new to Alpine Soap Company and are similar to bath bombs. How shower fizzies work is you take one of the tablets and place it at your feet in the shower. As the water hits the fizzie, it will start to disintegrate and release its fragrance up towards you, similar to aromatherapy.
What I am most proud about my company is that at the age of 19, I was able to start this company and learn how to build it up. In addition, I am super proud of the quality of the soaps and the satisfaction from all of our customers. I am super thankful for the support that I am getting from customers about my company as well as my snowboarding. The thing that sets Alpine Soap Company apart from other brands is because the soap is made in small kitchen batches, each bar of soap is different and unique. There is also a scent for everyone. If someone tends to have more sensitive skin, the soaps with no color and weaker or no fragrance (like our pure bar) are perfect.
Which women have inspired you in your life?
There are many woman who have inspired me in my life, and for that reason, it is hard for me to choose specific woman. Many of my qualities such as my strength, determination, persistence and drive have come from Aunts, grandmothers, music teachers, coaches and many others. My mom, however, has inspired me to be who I am. Her strength, creativity and caring personality has inspired me to maintain all of those qualities and make them very prevalent in my life.
