Meet Trailblazer Lexi Zadak Schmidt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexi Zadak Schmidt.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I originally went to school to be a teacher and actually taught special education for 4.5 years. I got into the world of fitness, nutrition and wellness when I got introduced to Crossfit in 2012. I slowly started experimenting with my own nutrition and was doing a lot of self-educating on various subjects. It didn’t take long for me to realize that what we put in our bodies can literally affect every aspect of our life, from weight management to sleep quality to proper hormone function and more! I immediately felt compelled to help teach this concept to others and improve people’s quality of life!

I was lucky to be hired on with Project Rise Fitness in 2016 where I was able to get certified as a nutrition coach and help pilot their nutrition program. I gained some incredible experience working with over 100 clients and alongside some amazing co-workers in this industry. It was this past winter when I decided to take a chance, branch out on my own and start my own nutrition coaching company, LZS Nutrition Ltd!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I feel really lucky to have had such a solid foundation coming from my two years of previous experience before branching out on my own. It’s always scary jumping into something new but when something is “good” scary, that means it’s worth the risk, right? I did hire a business coach for the first six months to help guide me in the right direction. Between him and the unconditional encouragement and support I get from my husband, parents, and friends, I’d say that has helped pave the way for success!

My advice for women who are starting their journey would be to not let anyone tell you that you can’t. I went into an extremely over-saturated market with fear that I would just blend in with the rest. I was told I needed to really stand out, market myself like crazy, do all these things differently, but in reality, if you believe in your product and believe in what you do, you will find success. Having a true passion for what you do goes a long way and people can see the genuine passion in your personality. And that right there is what can separate you from the rest!

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I refer to myself as a nutrition and wellness coach. My philosophy is to get away from traditional “diet” culture and help people find holistic and sustainable lifestyle changes that can help them reach their goals. I work with many performance athletes and clients who are just looking for overall body re-composition, however, my biggest passion is in working with clients who have specific hormone imbalances, gut health concerns or autoimmune conditions.

My goal with each client is to look beyond food and exercise and really dig into the whole picture. This includes sleep quality, stress and anxiety levels, energy levels, eating patterns and behaviors, potential food intolerances and their overall mindset towards and relationship with food.

I provide my clients with one-on-one, face-to-face coaching, which helps set me apart from the many online nutrition coaching companies that are becoming so popular these days. I really value the connection you get when you meet with someone in person and I believe it helps facilitate a more trusting and honest relationship between the client and myself.

Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
The biggest bundle of resources that have been the most helpful for me have been all the content and course material I’ve gathered through the Nutritional Coaching Institute. I have been certified through their Level 1, Business Systems, Hormone and Mindset courses and also took their Gut Health Master class. The knowledge I gained from the professionals leading those courses has been phenomenal. I also have several books written by Aviva Romm, Amy Myers, Sara Gottfried and Izabella Wentz, female professionals who specialize in hormone and autoimmune conditions. I could nerd out over their books all day!
