Meet Trailblazer Lisa Gindy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Gindy.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lisa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After backpacking around the world for two years, I came back to the US and decided not to return to practicing law. Instead, I moved to the mountains (Crested Butte) and opened a boutique. I owned it for 15 years and also spent nearly every day of those 15 years outside trail running, alpine skiing, nordic skiing, etc. And I was always looking for clothing that worked for all of these activities, stayed dry and stayed in place but that also had bold, unique style that could be worn around town, too. Every time that I went to tradeshows to by for my store, I would look for something that fit the bill… but I could never find it. So, I sold my store so that I could create myself. And so Scout Designs was born.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Haha. It’s BUSINESS. It’s ALWAYS a struggle. But that’s half the fun, right? Entrepreneurs are a very specific personality type. We love the challenge and lose our minds with routine and playing it safe. Coloring between the lines just is not our thing. As for advice to other women who are just starting out, I would tell them that I am a true believer in women lifting other women up. Find your counterparts, your tribe. We are out here. And we want to help so don’t be afraid to reach out. And remember to help those who come after you, as well. Women can do amazing things when we all work together. We are a force to be reckoned with.

We’d love to hear more about Scout Designs.
Scout Designs pieces cross over into fashion but they are designed for physical pursuits. And it is a brand born from experience that is extensively trail tested (how the heck else would I get away from my laptop?). It is designed for active women by an active woman. And customer input is heard and implemented. Currently, I work my booth at a lot of events. This is an amazing opportunity for feedback and I listen to it all. I have a product that I am proud of. Everything from the designs to the high-quality fabrics, to the fits to the fact that it is made in Los Angeles.

And more than proud, I am grateful. Grateful to the incredible people who have supported my endeavor along the way and for the customers who have shared very personal stories. Some that relate to why my designs make them feel good about their bodies and some that are about the personal journeys that they are on and how movement is helping them through it. I am grateful for their trust in sharing all of their experiences with me. I am blessed to be surrounded by incredible women who lift me up every day and show/remind me what I am capable of both physically and in business. If I can pass along even the tiniest bit of that magic to other women, this brand is a success.

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
I was raised by parents who told me that I am capable of doing what I set out to do. I lost them much younger than I should have but their voices stick with me, even now. The message has not been forgotten. They taught me to work hard and they never gave me an easy out. They taught me to step up to the challenge. And for that, I am forever grateful. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. And I don’t plan to stop.
