Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Fast.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Maggie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do. I longed for a nice mix of being able to travel and volunteering. I wanted to be a successful business owner yet I wanted to give as much time and money to local animal shelters. Five years ago, I was on the hunt for a new job and that’s when my passion for real estate ignited. I started working for a realtor as an administrative assistant. I still had a Monday – Friday job and was envious that he was able to take days off, travel, and seemed to be making good money. I stayed on the admin side of things for the next four years learning everything I could about real estate. I eventually decided the timing was right and I went off on my own and it was the best decision I have made. I love my career and I’m passionate about getting people into homes, owning rental properties for passive income, and most importantly helping local rescues and shelters. My husband and I own rental properties which allow us to travel and I hope to help other clients reach financial independence through passive income.
I currently live in Arvada with my husband and three rescue dogs. They all have stories of their own which is a reminder of why I do what I do. All three come from pretty abusive and negligent past’s and now they are lucky to be apart of our family.
My passion projects for 2019 consisted of volunteering with Do Over Dogs Rescue and obtaining a water tap for the West Arvada Dog Park. I helped with raising money, matched donations at events, finding foster and forever homes, and even helping transport dogs. My husband and I also volunteer for the Arvada Post’s Office annual food drive. Volunteering is something I love doing!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My road was bumpy. I wouldn’t say it was treacherous. I have an amazing support system and I had a gut feeling that I needed to find my “tribe” right away when I started my business. One of the first things I did was to join women’s networking groups. I wanted to find successful, passionate, and uplifting women to be around. That was difficult as sometimes that means giving up your old friends that fill your mind with doubt. Being a business owner is difficult in the sense that you don’t just clock in and out. Every decision you make impacts your life and sometimes people’s negativity can affect you. I joined the Arvada Chamber’s Inspiring Women’s Group and a few others. I had shoulders to cry on and most importantly I had an extremely supportive husband. He would allow me to have my meltdowns and then he would ask politely if he could help me up. The largest struggles are when business is not going well. I had a rough start and wanted to give up. DO NOT GIVE UP – right as I started looking for a job and thinking I should quit, my business picked up and has been successful ever since!
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I work as a residential real estate agent in the Denver Metro Area. I help people sell their homes for the most amount of money and I help people obtain homes of their dreams. I do enjoy working with first time home buyers as they are so much fun to work with! It’s such an amazing feeling when they are smiling at the closing table from ear to ear. I also help people get into real estate investing. I own rental properties and believe they are a great way to obtain financial freedom. I am happy to sit down with anyone and talk about rentals and how to go about obtaining rental properties. One thing that sets me apart is my passion for dog rescue. I have a motto: drink coffee, sell homes, save dogs. I have coffee mugs, decals, and posters that say that and I truly want to make an impact in our shelter system. One day, I hope to see a world where dogs don’t die by the thousands in our shelter system.
Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
I think watching my parents own their own business set me up for success. My parents moved to the US from Poland and watching them become business owners really made it so failure wasn’t an option. My parents worked so hard to get us into the US that it only makes sense that I continue their work ethic and follow my passion. My dad’s always been supportive of me and knows I beat to my own drum. He’s just there to wrangle me in with some advice from time to time.
Between my dad, brother, and husband cheering me on it seemed impossible to not become successful! I still remember texting my brother a picture of my first sign in someone’s yard. He was so proud and excited for me. Growing up, we’ve always been close and I think that’s helped me a lot as an adult.
