Meet Trailblazer Mariam Ejaz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariam Ejaz.

Mariam, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
To me, interior design was more about helping improve people’s lives by solving a problem than simply decorating. While working in the industry, I came across clients that loved design but didn’t find it accessible.

When a friend mentioned she needed help with her son’s unsafe and uninspiring room, but wasn’t quite ready to pay for the full design service, I decided to collaborate with her by helping with the planning phase, incorporating some of the presents she received for his big first birthday party into the design, and letting her do some of the leg work to place orders in order to keep costs low.

Realizing how all of the presents could’ve been used towards designing the room as a present itself rather than just a few got me thinking of a way to solve her problems that others can also relate to. After several years of research and development, Outlive Design was created!

It is an online invitation platform that helps anyone design any home project as a present for any special occasion with the help of a professional who walks you through the design process step-by-step. The designer starts with the planning phase to work out a goal amount needed to execute the project and adds it to the invite, which you send out to your friends and family. The invite makes it convenient for guests to RSVP and contribute towards the project as a present in any monetary amount saving them from searching for and you from receiving unwanted boxed gifts. Once the event is over, you can collaborate with the designer to execute the project with perfection!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it wasn’t a smooth road. New ideas are difficult for some to grasp right away which means finding the right people to join the team is always a struggle. However, you just have to go with the flow, filter out the negativity, and build positive relationships with those who share the same vision as you on the way.
