Meet Trailblazer Mikaela Antonelli

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikaela Antonelli.

Mikaela, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always been drawn to photography. My mom would let me use her old film camera when I was little and I loved to play around and create images. When I was in high school, I took every photography class I could take and eventually fell in love with Journalism and really honed my style of Journalistic photography. I am a Colorado native but have lived in Denver for about four years. I was kind of in this rut of what I wanted to do with my Journalism degree and I saw an Instagram group called “Denver Creates.” They are a group that gets together once and month to take pictures and network. I went to my first meet and realized that I actually had a decent eye for photography. I started to do research and decided I wanted to pursue a career in Photography. I did my first engagement session for a friend and I fell in love with it. I love capturing love stories and making people feel like supermodels! It is always such an honor to be included in such a big day for people. It has been a journey but I think I have really found my niche. I have been able to really take full advantage of my home state’s beautiful scenery and create amazing images for amazing couples.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I definitely have had struggles along the way, it hasn’t been perfect but I am still learning and I know that I can’t be the best right away(which I always want to be). I feel like I am just starting my journey myself but two years ago, I never thought I would be where I am today. My advice is if you have a passion for something and you think you can turn it into a career go for it! I can’t promise that it is going to be glitter and fanfare right away but it is definitely worth going for, you will be so happy you did.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Mikaela Antonelli Photography – what should we know?
I specialize in wedding photography. I am more known for my candid, journalistic style. I don’t really try to pose you, you may start out posed but I will make you move around because I am here to capture the in-between moments. My goal is for you to look back on your session and laugh and remember how much fun you had. Someone once said “If you feel like you look silly you are doing it right,” which is the motto I live by, that is how I get the best pictures and the biggest smiles.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Try your best not to compare yourself to anyone else. In the creative space, it is so hard not to but everyone has their own journey and their own timeline, don’t rush yours.
