Meet Trailblazer Rachel Askelson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Askelson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rachel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was 15 when I started getting sick and went many years without clear answers to my health problems. At the age of 22, I read a book called ‘The Alchemist’ and I made some big life changes. I withdrew from all college courses at UNLV, I enrolled in a holistic nutrition course online and I flew back home to Colorado as I felt my world was crumbling to pieces in Las Vegas and needed the support of my family as I was severely sick. I never ended up moving back to Las Vegas nor finished my last semester at UNLV. I went on to graduate in the holistic nutrition program and then began discovering more and more interests within the realm of health and wellness. I had always wanted a solo travel experience and I piggy-backed it with a three-month internship in Mayan Ethnobotany and Healing Traditions. I found myself living in a remote area of Guatemala where you could only access the healing center by boat. It was in the second week where I realized I wasn’t here for herbalism and ethnobotany, I was here to find the answers I’d been seeking for so long. I connected deeply with my healing experience and for the first time in my life discovered spirituality. When I returned home three months later, I began to share all that I had learned with others on their healing journeys. Three and a half years later, I am still growing my practice, now known as Radiant Moments.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road is never smooth, but it’s always flowed. Some of my biggest struggles have been fear of success (financially as well as being seen), and a back and forth battle between myself and feeling insecure. It’s been scary at times for me to share my passion with others because it’s so very personal and I must be vulnerable in order to do what I do. In the beginning, I struggled with the balance of roles. Do I show up as the ‘perfect professional’ or the ‘true, authentic me’? People don’t come to a cacao meditation or energy session because of me, they come for themselves and their own personal healing. When I was able to separate the two, I was then able to let go of any so-called ‘perfect professional’ and all that was left to show up was my true self.

My advice for any other women who are just starting their journey would be to just go for it. Start. Don’t allow anyone’s negative advice get to you, you’re never too young or too old to follow your heart. Get inspired by other women that are doing something you dream of doing, but do it your way. We always have fear within, but give permission to your courage and see what can happen. Believe. Believe in yourself like you would your best friend. Don’t let the struggles or setbacks get to you, they are what build you.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I am a healer and I facilitate experiences for others to discover their own healing. I have three main offerings; Cacao Ceremony, Energy Healing, and Readings. Each of my offerings is tied together by the energies of the sacred Mayan calendar. Each day holds a specific vibration of energy. Working closely with these energies has been the root of my own healing journey, therefore, it’s the foundation of Radiant Moments.

Cacao Ceremony is a group meditation where myself and all participants sit in a circle and drink ceremonially grade cacao (a.k.a. chocolate in its purest form!) Cacao is a powerful tool of meditation where it actually enhances the practice due to specific chemical compounds that are in cacao. I create a custom visual meditation for the cacao ceremonies based on the energy of the day. This is a powerful practice for the beginner as well as the advanced meditator.

Energy Healing is a 1:1 private session where I work closely with the individual to balance their energetic frequency. I usually tell people it’s like a message for your soul. The healing combines a gentle face and scalp massage, followed by hands-on energy work where I access the root of any blockages. This is a supportive practice for anyone seeking emotional healing from subconscious trauma.

Readings are used both in group settings as well as 1:1 as I offer a variety of readings for people. Every person has five unique energies based off of their birthday that align with the Mayan calendar. This is used to dive deep into a person’s character balances as well as imbalances and how to bring them into alignment. The five energies that are discovered in this in-depth reading are Past Energy, Main Energy, Feminine Energy, Masculine Energy, and Destiny Energy. I also offer readings where people select a certain amount of cards that offer guidance in a specific situation they are currently experiencing.

I am most proud of my genuine approach to my practice and what I offer. I never feel as if only certain people should be able to access guidance to their healing and I often offer specials or flexible pricing for people. I think what sets me apart from others is my connection with the energies and the Mayan calendar and the way I approach everything I do with these energies.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
So many women have inspired me starting with those closest to me; my mom for always being supportive of my path and my sister for leading the way of entrepreneurial spirit. Many of my friends have inspired me, including Meg for her undeniable strength and authenticity and Melissa for her continuous travels and growth. My teacher, Elisa, for teaching me to never ask too many questions, just the right ones. And seriously, so many more that inspire me, like how thoughtful my friend Megan is and how Sydney refuses to fit in and Elena thrives in independence. I am constantly inspired by the women I meet face to face and show up to do the work.
