Meet Trailblazer Rebekah Romero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebekah Romero.

Rebekah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Like most photographers — “I always loved photography and never saw myself doing anything else…” But more than that, I love moments, I love light, and I love the idea of making a change in someone’s world by using my skill. My life consists of capturing moments starting with maternity all the way to my client’s babies first year! I have found so much joy in becoming friends with my clients and being a part of their kiddos life from the start. I nannied all through college and a few years after, so my connection with kids comes from many hours of playing dress up, fighting dragons, building forts, and reading bedtime stories. I truly couldn’t see myself doing anything else…

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting your own business is never smooth. It’s a lot of tears, frustration, victories, five steps back, try again, “well that didn’t work”, and the list goes on. I’ve experienced it all. There were/are days that I wonder if I’m doing what I should be and if people even care about the content that I’m putting out. I ask myself if it’s worth it to be vulnerable and to share my heart when people don’t seem to be watching. Well let me tell you, girl, it is. For every bad experiences that leave me feeling drained, there are five more that give me so much life and excitement. It’s all about finding the people you connect with who see and appreciate your vision. It’s about shamelessly being yourself and knowing that you are what they need. You can make the changes that you desire to see. It all starts with you.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Rebekah Romero Photography – what should we know?
Light. Using light has been my inspiration from day one. The moment I first learned how to use my camera on manual mode, everything changed. I began experimenting and using light to cast interesting shadows or evoke a mood. I studied visual journalism in college so a lot of the work I was preparing was documentary style where we had to use the light to help tell our story.

My light, airy, etherial, and natural style reflects how I see the world. I see beauty and new beginnings, I see a light at the end of every tunnel. But I also see timelessness. When I look at the bright airy photos, I see the moments in the image, rather than the backgrounds or the edit. I see the humans in the photo and see their joy and their love for each other. I want to see them.

Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
Above anything else, God has been my main inspiration throughout my life, personal and professional. I couldn’t be where I am without His guidance, and I wouldn’t be blessed with this business if it wasn’t for his wisdom and grace.

I am also inspired by so any talented photographers and business owners. I am inspired by their work, by their hustle, and by their fearlessness to show up everyday. I think it’s so important to have a community of woman who are supporting each other and cheering each other on, so thank you if you’ve been there for me! I see you.
