Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Siffring.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my business as a stay at home mom with a master’s degree in counseling (and the student loans to prove it!) who was looking for more. I never meant to be a stay at home mom, and while I love my kids, I didn’t find fulfillment in being with them 24/7 with nothing else to do. I tried a LOT of those “make money from home” things you find on the internet, and I can report a lot of them are weird, scammy, and not lucrative! But one thing led to another, and one day I heard a podcast interview with a therapist who had started a life coaching company online. Her story and business resonated with me. First, I thought “why didn’t I start this business?” Second, I looked her up and emailed to ask if she was hiring. Thankfully, she was! She introduced me to the world of life coaching, gave me tons of clients, and I happily worked for her for several years before striking out on my own. I truly had no idea there was a career out there online that was such a perfect fit for me. Now, the kind of coaching I do is to help moms in the same position that I was – skilled and passionate, but not sure how to translate that into something they can do from home while raising kids.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Finding my passion, in general, was a long and windy road, but getting a business off the ground wasn’t easy either! It can be frustrating when you’re amazing at what you do but struggle to spread that message to others and get clients. Most of the battle is truly in our own minds, overcoming our fears: of failure, of success, of being seen, of being “found out” as an imposter, or burning out, of disappointing others, and more. Even though I am a coach, it’s hard to see outside of our own perspectives and BS – I’ve found having my own coach to be so valuable in this journey to help keep me focused and moving forward.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
In a nutshell: I help women build profitable businesses online. While there is definitely a business and marketing strategy involved, I’m known more for the mindset work I do with my clients. Because of my background in psychology and counseling, I tailor strategies to my clients’ personalities and they sometimes feel like I’m reading their mind when I help them see ways they are sabotaging themselves or holding themselves back. What this looks like in their results: numerous best months ever in business, steady growth, going beyond what they thought was possible for themselves and making a full-time income with a business they run from home.
I’m most proud of the moments where my clients have breakthroughs. Where they realize that they thought they could never make more than $50k in a year because they thought it would mean they’d be a bad mom. Where they make a decision in line with where they want to be in the future vs where they’ve been so far. Where the work they’ve been doing for five months culminates in a huge sales month. Each person’s goals and journeys are different, but watching their vision come to life is so fulfilling.
Look, business coaches are a dime a dozen these days. There are a lot of choices out there, but I think I’m different. I believe that business and marketing strategies and techniques are something you can google and learn for free on youtube. I think the vast majority of business advice on the internet makes most people feel like they don’t know enough to grow a business and causes them to doubt their intuition and skills. I believe helping people to understand how their brains work and how to change the way they think, feel, and react is the most valuable business tool they can have. It means the variable is them and their thinking, and that they can translate that into success in any area.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
It’s ok to expect good things. So many of us live in fear and think we have to always be expecting the worst and not getting our hopes up. This is no way to live! How would life be different for you if you expected good things, spent more time daydreaming, got your hopes up, and then acted accordingly?
