Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Cochran.
Sarah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always had a passion for helping others, I truly think it is what makes us human.
My husband’s co-worker had been selling ONEHOPE Wine for a few months. She told me about it and I was very curious to try it. She sent over a bottle and I was hooked. The wine is from Napa County a.k.a. wine country and not only is delicious but also gives back to several different non-profit groups. Of course, I was excited about potentially being a CE (cause entrepreneur) but I was a little worried. Would people buy, would it be hard selling? Luckily, I took the leap. I knew I would love helping non-profits as well as getting others excited about giving back. It’s actually so easy, all you have to do is give private wine tastings. It’s like bringing wine country to Colorado.
The last tasting I did was for a bunch of teachers. Since we all love literacy and know how important it is to children, we gave back to the non-profit Room to Read. It is a non-profit that funs money to literacy programs.
I am so happy that I decided to take this journey. It’s been a lot of fun and I feel like I am doing my part to make the world a little better.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not every month are you making the same amount of money. You need to put yourself out there. My advice for others just starting would be to have fun, be passionate about what you are doing and know if you want to make something happen, you need to put yourself out there.
Please tell us about ONEHOPE Wine – what should we know?
So, I am a cause entrepreneur for ONEHOPE. I give private wine tastings that raise money for different non-profits.
I am proud of this company. Our founders started with an idea that they wanted to give back 365 days a year instead of just one month a year. They collaborated with Robert Mondavi Jrs grandson and came up with a great brand! One of our other winemakers is a female, which is rare in the business. Mari Coyle has made some pretty amazing wines all from the vineyard in Napa county.
Every bottle you buy gives back. I think that is really what sets it apart. If you love wine, you might as well give back at the same time.
Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
Definitely. When I was 13 years old, I was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis… hardest word to spell let alone say. It’s a chronic lung disease that mainly has effected me that when I get sick, I get sick. My left lung is full of tiny “potholes” that when I get sick, mucus pools into these holes and I get pneumonia. A lot, many times, it comes on without me knowing or having a cold prior. I have missed countless days of school and work now that I’m older. I’ve had to tell people I am not faking my way out of something because I am sick.
Even though I have a chronic illness, I have never let it define me. I have always had a positive outlook on life, seen the good in people, and known when things get hard its not the end of the world.
