Today we’d like to introduce you to Saré Merrigan with Mesa Realty.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Saré. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The path to get my real estate license was long and windy with many hesitations. Prior to real estate, every job direction or career I had chosen had been in service to others. I have always loved working with people, helping/caring for and teaching them. That’s the mom in me that needs that channel professionally as well as at home. I also need my work to be dynamic and interesting with plenty of freedom. When I decided to get my real estate license, I had spent many years both working for myself and for others and ultimately, what I kept coming back to was that I was tired of other people determining my worth, that I need to be the one that decides my success.
Did I mention I love looking at homes? I am more than happy to binge-watch anything on HGTV when snowed in. Combining my love for looking at homes, desire to create sacred spaces, my longing to remodel everything and passion for amazing design: real estate was “the” decision.
I have been with Signature Realty, Inc. in Wheat Ridge for almost five years now; their office location and model is perfect for me. While I focus my business in and on Golden, Colorado, mostly working from my home office, I’m more than happy to make the 10-minute commute to Signature for support, comradery, inspiration and training. Signature encourages me to be me. While being there, I’ve branded and grown my real estate business, Mesa Realty, exponentially.
Since becoming a real estate broker, life has sort of just flown by. The work is very energetic, always keeping me on my toes, pushing me to learn, grow and untimely be better. Real estate is who I am. I am eternally grateful to my family who supported me when I was starting on this journey, my friends for giving me confidence to know I am much stronger than I think, and so many inspirational real estate professionals and peers for being exceptional mentors and guides helping me navigate this crazy track we’ve chosen.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth, ha, no, real estate is incredibly dynamic and can be very unpredictable at times. However, it is also electrifying, exhilarating and unbelievably rewarding.
There are so many moving parts in every real estate transaction. It’s not always possible to anticipate the outcome of an inspection, a buyer getting cold feet or a seller having a hard time letting go of a home they love. I take my job very seriously; my main concern is to make sure my clients know they are always my priority and that they have all of the information necessary to make decisions that are in their best interests.
My advice for new agents would be to make sure you sign on at a brokerage that supports, inspires and encourages you to be your best self.
For young women in particular, the same types of resistance you may face throughout the workforce can be found in real estate, but fortunately, the relatively high proportion of women in the industry makes it easier to be respected and successful. And ultimately, though it may not be apparent in each deal, it is a business where customer service, reputation, skill and results matter more than gender.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Mesa Realty with Signature Realty – what should we know?
I do residential real estate in the Denver metro area, like the 21,000+ actively practicing brokers. I unequivocally believe my clients find me for a reason. My clients want the “Sare’-ndipity” style of help, my caring personality, attention to detail, optimism, genuineness and sense of humor. While I have an incredible team that help with marketing, transaction administration, showings, troubleshooting, anything I need, I always want to be the number one contact for my clients, not one of my team members. Truly getting to know my clients’ needs, wants, desires, who they are, why they are moving and how can I best support them during this very exciting chapter is paramount to me.
While Mesa Realty focuses on the Golden market, which is my home and community, I frequent Arvada, Morrison, Genesee, Bergen Park, Evergreen, and the entire Front Range to suite my clients’ needs. I will be there for them, for you, wherever it is they decide to move to.
I am constantly striving to grow, learn, evolve and provide greater services for my clients. Most recently, this past fall, I became a Certified Luxury Home Marketing Specialist™ (CLHMS) which has come with an abundance of invaluable knowledge for buying and selling at all price points, a myriad of skills to improve my customer service capabilities, access to the most relevant and advanced real estate technologies and an unbelievable network of the finest real estate brokers and resources from around the country.
Which women have inspired you in your life?
To name a few:
-My mother. My mom was fire and love. She went back to graduate school while I was in preschool and graduated as valedictorian. She was a free spirit but focused and determined, loving and giving, sometimes to a fault and lived every day like it was her last. She was an inspiration to many, filled with joy, adventure, music and a little crazy. A few of the many things she taught me in the first 22 years of life are to treat everyone as equals, that no one is worthless, to be confident and solid in who I am, to not take “things’ personally, to go after what I want, to be free from abandon, to not shy away from blessings and/or success, to enjoy life, and that showing emotions is not a weakness. Not having my mother for the past 20 years has been challenging but she left a light and a force in me that is enduring.
-My working mom friends. Shout out to the moms that are out there busting their butts to raise healthy, happy children, also working hard guiding their careers and passions and still managing to somehow get the groceries and meals on the table and out for a quick run. They are my inspiration day in and day out! When I struggle or feel like I am falling behind, I look to these tenacious women. They are my heroes, my inspiration and my muses.
-My broker. Shellee has been in real estate for over 25 years. She runs our office with knowledge, experience, compassion and empathy. She makes time every week to sit and talk with me; she really listens, answers my questions with veteran finesse, provides well-versed insights, inspires, motivates and encourages me to be better. Shellee is a bright light in the real estate industry and someone I am lucky to call my friend.
Thank you to all of the people who have helped me become the real estate agent that I am today and also keep me motivated and supported day in and day out. I sincerely hope that each client recognizes my commitment to integrity, thoroughness, and communication. I will continue to advocate for them, first and foremost, in every interaction.
