Meet Trailblazer Sharon Mendoza

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Mendoza.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sharon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Photography has always been an interest of mine since I was 15. My best friend & I would go to a creek near her house & take pictures of each other, then post them on our MySpace page.

I didn’t start taking it seriously until two years ago when I realized maybe I did have some talent.

My main focus was to take pictures of Denver & have others see them & want to visit or have people who live in Denver want to explore the city more often.

When I first joined Instagram, all I had was an android and basic editing apps. I never thought I’d be getting interviewed for something I thought of as just a hobby.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a smooth road so far, the only struggle I can think of as of now is dealing with myself. I am my worst critic, I’m a perfectionist & I’ll spend hours editing one picture just to post a different one or not post anything at all.

In the end, it’s all worth it.

My advice would be: you don’t need an expensive camera to be a good photographer or to even start out.
Use what you have, even if it’s just your phone. I still find myself using my iPhone sometimes over my camera.
Don’t let anyone stop you from pursuing something that makes you happy either.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a photographer, I love to take pictures of Denver, the city life is my favorite. When I’m not in the city, I like to be in the mountains. It’s nice to have a balance.

I’d like to think I’m known for taking pictures of a good view with a pair of converse.

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
Growing up, one of my biggest fears was (and still is) disappointing my mom. When I started taking photography a little more seriously, I knew I had to do something meaningful with it.
