Meet Trailblazer Sheria Giles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheria Giles.

Sheria, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Debrahjbeauty is my waxing and lashing business. I started out in the cosmetology world doing hair. I thought hair was my passion which turned out to be a talent I was really good at but didn’t love. In 2015, I moved to Houston thinking I was gonna become this hair God and boy was I wrong. I couldn’t break into the hair industry how I wanted so I started shifting my interest. I really needed a job so I applied at European wax center. It was really hard at first and I was ready to quit, somehow my technique clicked and I became the WAX God of my center. I feel in love with waxing it wax so therapeutic. I decided to move back to Colorado where I worked at the EUROPEAN WAX on Cornerstar way for about four years. It was in my 4th year I decided I wanted more myself. I put in my two weeks notice and started working from home. That’s when lash extensions caught my eyes and I fell in love. I practiced like crazy and got my lashing technique down. Now I have my dream job and couldn’t be happier!!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been an obstacle of a road. Many times I wanted to give up because everyone around me was booming and I was at a standstill. I’m so happy I didn’t give up. My struggle was money and figuring out how to market myself on a very tight budget. Thank God for word of mouth, Facebook Ads, and Instagram ads. My advice would be to manifest positivity and speaking life into yourself and whatever it is you’re doing. Write down the goals you have got yourself and make them visible. PRAYER WORKS pray about everything to the tiniest details. NEVER EVER compare where you are in life to someone else because we are all on our own journey, no two journeys will be the same.

I do full body waxing, eyelash extensions, and Vajacials. I specialize in all three services. I’m known for getting smooth hair-free wax’s in 15 mins. As a brand, I’m most proud of naming my business after my mom. She exudes everything beauty so it was only right to give it her name. What sets me apart from others is I genuinely love what I do. This isn’t just a job for me, this is my EVERYTHING !!! I wouldn’t change my career for all the tea in China lol!! It’s just something about making women feel good about themselves that does it for me. You feel it as soon as you enter my home!!

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
I don’t have just one mentor I have a tribe of women that help me in all aspects no questions asked! You are the face of your business which means your going go have to put yourself out there and mingle with everyone. Always have business cards on you to whip out at a moment’s notice. Keeping up with posting on social media really has boosted business for me.
