Today we’d like to introduce you to Tasia Munger.
Tasia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was young, my siblings and I, would make crafts all the time with our mom. When I got into high school, I realized that I never lost that love for art. I took as many art classes as I could to learn and explore every type of medium that was available to me. I knew that I wanted to do something with that God given talent for a living. When I was 14, my mother tragically passed away in a car accident. This pushed me to continue doing anything I could with what she taught me. When I was about 19, I started making jewelry for myself. Friends and family began to request pieces for themselves! I got married, had a son, and we bought my dad’s house. I continued making jewelry in the same craft room that has so many memories of crafting with my mom. Being a stay at home mom allowed me the opportunity to pursue my hobby of making jewelry. With the support of my husband and all of my family and friends, what started as a hobby, selling feather earrings at local reggae concerts, grew into a fruitful, yet humbling, small business. I have dedicated my business to my mom, Janie. She also loved hummingbirds and the “Stellula” is the most beautiful one!
I set up booths at local craft fairs and holiday shows year-round, take custom orders throughout the year, and local businesses have started to carry my pieces! I make a lot of leather earrings, simplistic necklaces, bead bracelets, and baby teethers and so much more! All my pieces are uniquely and lovingly made!
Within the last few years, thanks to new friendships, blooming relationships, and local boutiques, my dream has become a reality. Not only am I loving what I do every day, but I am also blessed with the opportunity to hopefully put a smile on someone’s face!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t always been easy. There have been questions of doubt and questions if this will be successful. It is always scary quitting your desk job to do what you love that doesn’t guarantee a paycheck! There have been many “no’s” along the way. There have been failures, roadblocks, even my own procrastination has threatened to knock me off my feet. A while ago, I started an Etsy page. It wasn’t successful. I kept making creations and realized where I was successful. I started listening to all the positive compliments and encouraging words from those around me. That really pushed me to keep going. Having faith that this is where God wanted me to be has been huge! Without faith, I would have failed a long time ago.
If you fail at one thing, try another. Go where you are lead, don’t stay where you are comfortable and don’t work just for yourself. Do it for those you love and always put all your passion into what you are doing.
We’d love to hear more about Stellula By Tasia.
I would say people know me for my custom pieces and unique, one of a kind, earrings and necklaces.
I have done many pieces with ashes of pets, parents and other loved ones creating a piece of art with resin. These are my favorite because I love creating what they have in mind and putting that joy and love back into their hearts when they see and wear that creation every day.
My most popular items are my simple necklaces, baby teethers, leather earrings, stamped custom pieces, and newest, macramé earrings. All my leather is genuine, hand-cut leather. I love to hand-paint designs on the leather for a very unique look. I rarely make the same thing multiple times (unless requested). My prices are very reasonable and people love that about my brand. I want all people to be able to afford to feel great in wearing handmade, quality items.
I am most proud of sticking to my beliefs, always putting my own style and twist on local trends, and always doing it with so much joy!
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I listen to a few podcasts while I work, anything from Side Hustle School to mystery stories. Mostly just music. Lauren Daigle mix on Pandora. Sometimes anything from country to rap, just depending on how much of a workload I have that day!
