Meet Tricia Turpenoff of Turpenoff Photography in Colorado Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tricia Turpenoff.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Passion and purpose – My mission in photography is to capture your essence. I have spent over 25 years listening, loving and branding my clients. The difference you will feel when you work with me is that you will be seen, acknowledged and heard! My passion for photography extends far beyond having you in front of my lens. First, I want to know you and understand your needs. Our first meeting is all about getting to know you; it is not transactional. That comes with time and preparation. I would be honored to be a part of your journey.

Beginning – I received a 126 Kodak Instamatic film camera as a gift from my aunt and uncle when I was five years old. Although I was young, this mature gift suited me just right. A childhood trip to Washington D.C. was my photography debut and caused my parents to comment admiringly on my natural ability for what was later to become my passion.

College Years – I continued developing my talent throughout high school. In college, I received formal training in photography and made money as a “party picture girl,” taking photos at sorority and fraternity functions.

Inspiration – After graduating college in 1994, I was fortunate enough to work with several inspiring and accomplished mentors who helped me perfect my craft and establish myself as the professional photographer I am blessed to be today.

Fun facts & Silliness – I was married to the love of my life, Jake in July of 2015 and was thrilled to inherit the best daughter ever, Leah. In 2017 we also welcomed Leah’s amazing boyfriend Eric!

I’ve had a camera in my hand for over 40 years. I love 80’s music and am a proud fan of both trashy old television shows like Melrose Place as well as trashy new television shows like The Bachelor. My favorite snacks include Swedish Fish, Ring Pops, and sushi. I’m an avid lover of silly faces, 80’s music, anything that sparkles, mid-century modern design, and cooking for my family and friends.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Most of my photography career was very charmed. Then 2008 hit and I was in a free fall. I had not been through a recession while in business, so I had no idea what to expect. Things were rough. I checked our client logs and found that from 2007 to 2008 we lost 100 clients. What a blow. I was so embarrassed that I hadn’t paid closer attention. The clients and money had always been plentiful! We limped through the next four years. There were some ups and more downs. Finally, in 2012, I had to file bankruptcy. It was the biggest shame I had ever felt. I had been so successful for so long that this was the lowest I had ever been. After the bankruptcy, I changed the way I looked at my business. I was more present, responsible and took charge of my business and step by step I found success again. I know that from my struggles that anyone can get knocked down and anyone who wants success can have it by making sure they take steps every day to reach their goals.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Turpenoff Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
You may ask yourself, “Why hire Turpenoff Photography over another photographer?”

It’s simple. Your personal journey inspires me to capture the essence of who you really are; your heart, your soul and your essence. You are an original, you are brilliant and it is my purpose to show you off to the world! To let your inner beauty shine!

These are not just clichés to throw around glibly; they are the rhythms of my studio. My work celebrates the real you!

You are unique. Your experiences – your joys, sorrows, and milestones – they are all part of what makes you so very special. Whatever your story is, it is completely yours.

My part in this, as my purpose – my passion – is to capture the essence of you. Each and every one of us has a story to tell. My 25 years of experience allow me to capture that through my lens.

My focus is quality results, yet I also love the process. My natural gift is connecting with my clients, which is why I meet with you before you even step in front of my camera. This helps you feel confident, comfortable and relaxed when you have your session…

The evolution of my clients is clearly my favorite thing. On this page https://turpenoff.com/evolution/, you will see the visual transformation of Betsy Clark! She is one of my favorite people.

It has been an amazing journey to watch her confidence skyrocket and her business grow. She reminds me of the part I have played in that process, which tickles me to no end!

Within these three sessions, you will see where we started together and where we have transitioned.

You can see in these images she becomes more playful, fun-loving, confident and comfortable in her own skin.

My fierce and compelling drive to empower women, remind them of their ability and competency gives them the courage to be brave, bold and successful.

Coupled with brand management, my clients utilize these photographs to help grow their business.

Like Betsy, ask yourself, what is holding me back from revealing my true essence? What does it look like to stop playing a smaller game?

How do I stop the mind chatter? How will I show up today so I can perform at a higher level and do the things I need to do?

My experience shows these action steps can be a game changer for you:
1. Learn more about yourself.
2. Hire a coach, get the help you need.
3. Do whatever it takes to make your dreams come true.
4. Step outside of your comfort zone.
5. Face your fears because when you do your fears, always get smaller that way.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I wouldn’t say luck played any role. I believe in faith. I know that the higher power I believe in is the reason for all the blessings I have had in my life and business.

Let’s connect. Tell me your story and we will create magic together!
