Today we’d like to introduce you to TYJA3.
TYJA3, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had a love for music. My mom would always play Boyz II Men, The Fugees, Loretta Lynn, Whitney Huston and more. So I had a soft spot for that R&B real feel sound. As I grew up, I started listening to a lot of Hip-Hop and rock. I Remember the First actual CD I got was the “Eminem Show” I had that Cd playing non-stop Then one year we got a computer and found the wonderful world of Limewire. My mom hands me a mix CD of a few songs. Out of those few songs 2 really hit me. Both songs from the legend himself NAS. The songs were “If I ruled the world” ft Lauryn Hill from the “It Was Written” Album and “I can” from the “God’s Son” album. I had already been writing and rapping here and there but those two songs really shook me to my core. Not only did it make me want to work on my craft (rapping style, writing and producing) but to also learn how to play the piano. The sample in “I can” is Beethoven’s “Fur Elise”, I instantly had the urge to work, save money, buy a keyboard and learn that song, so I did. Once I hit that goal, I moved on the next instrument the Saxophone then percussion. Being a shy kid with a ton of energy growing up with a single mom who was working all the time, I had nothing to do but practice my craft. So I did and I got good, really good. Years later, I realized I wanted to be more than an MC I wanted to act and dance. I just wanted to be an entertainer that would one day Entertain the whole world! Be it through Music, acting, stand-up, dance or even a simple conversation. There was and still is and will continue to be a lot of dark times in my life. So by becoming the ultimate entertainer, I would be able to bring my unique light into this dark, cold world the best way I know-how. Thus my amazing journey through entertainment begun.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been smooth road by any means. Not to say I haven’t been having a great time but anything worth doing is going to have a ton of challenges, if it didn’t it wouldn’t be worth doing. A couple of years ago I came across a saying that really hit home ” there is beauty in the struggle and ugly in the success”. So if your pushing through and grinding as hard as you can to achieve your dream, it might be hard but it will be an amazing journey. If you have obtained your dream and achieved your goals and are continuously working to keep building and maintaining it, there is going to be a ton of ugliness that you will have to deal with in order to do so. Some of the struggles I that have crossed my path so far can range from major to basically nothing. Major issues I’ve had are working with like-minded friends and family that either don’t want to put in the work you do and feel betrayed when you rise and they don’t or that are two-faced who will act like they are happy and proud of you to your face, but are really plotting your downfall when you turn around. Another struggle is dealing with self-doubt. I chose to pursue a dream where I need to put all of my life out in the public’s eye. So not only do I have to deal with my own insecurities, self-doubts now I have to take in all of the love and hate from other people. Everything I release I song, video picture or even a simple status update I get that heart-wrenching anxiety, wondering if people are going to hate it or love it or even care. Luckily I have an amazing team and amazing fans that share nothing but love, support and honest feedback. So knowing that there will always be self-doubt within myself is a struggle in its self, but it also pushes me harder to make sure I do the best I can that I put 200% in everything I do.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with your work – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am a Hip-Hop artist. I go by the name TYJA3. My stage name and real name are the same. I just changed the last letter of my name from an E to a 3. The three stands for “Mind, Body and Soul”. “Mind” is the science, advancement and innovation. “Body” is art, play, feelings and connection. “Soul” is mindfulness, faith, hope and Peace. These three pieces equal one whole and that whole is me. I implement these three things into everything I do and into every relationship I make. I write, produce and perform my own music (Hip-Hop). My music is known to more upbeat and hype, while at the same time bringing a smart lyrical balance to a mixed genre beat, you won’t find another sound like mine and that is what I wanted to create. I wanted to create something so different so unique that you would not only want to listen to but HAVE to listen to. Something that stands out from a scene full of cookie-cutter sounds and shows. I am most proud of my team and our progress within the past few years. I would not be where I am today without my team. I believe what sets us apart from the others is not only the music but our performances. The live shows is what makes us, us. It gives us a way to connect with fans and reach people on a whole new level. We talk about issues happening in the world, we tell jokes and we rock the house all in one go! We stay true to who we are and keep the vision alive and it shows through our performances, music, and hustle.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Plans for the future are always changing as we grow and learn more about this industry. As a team, we have our own individual plans and goals. But the one plan/goal we are all chasing as a whole is to perform on every major world stage. To grow the TYJA3 name to more than just music and entertainment. To have it become more of a state of mind. The mindset to live the life you want to live the best way you can, no matter what situation you’re in, no matter the obstacles in your way, if you have a dream/goal go out and work for it. Currently, we are looking forward to expanding outside of Colorado, as well as new music videos and shows. There are few major changes coming down the line as far as shows and events. But that will be announced later.
