Meet Tyler Pazik of Pazik Performance Group in Capitol Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Pazik.

Tyler, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was playing baseball at Indiana State University, I tore the labrum in my throwing shoulder. After 15 frustrating months of rehab, I tore it again. From there, I decided to “hang em up.” During the first summer of my 15-month rehab, my dad handed me a book called, The Mental Game of Pitching by Harvey Dorfman. I disliked the book so much that I never finished it and actually don’t even know where it went. I probably should’ve paid attention though because inside that book were techniques that I could’ve used to help me through my injury. I didn’t realize it at the time but I was incredibly lost. Without baseball, who was I? I sat in my basement for hours on end doing NOTHING but playing video games and just waiting around for my shoulder to heal. Without even realizing it, I was digging a hole for myself that was going to be harder and harder to climb out of.

It all came to a head when I was riding to dinner with my dad and brother. One thing was said and next thing I know, I’m walking through traffic during the Chicago rush hour. I got so mad that I literally got out of the car. From there, no one knew what to do with me. I alienated myself and getting back to school couldn’t come soon enough. After I got back to school that fall, my friend handed me another mental-game book called, Mind Gym by Gary Mack. This book, I read straight through and thus began my journey towards becoming a High-Performance Coach. I devoured books, articles, and videos about how to perform at your best when it means the most. I finished my degree and after a year off of school, went to Texas Christian University to get my master’s in Sport Psychology.

Since then, I’ve worked with the University of Notre Dame, University of Northern Colorado, University of Maine, University of Oklahoma, professionals in basketball, golf, soccer, baseball, MMA, and equestrian, and also with top high school programs around the country. Now I’m living in Denver and travel to consult as well as doing 1 on 1 coaching with professionals in sport and business including top salespeople in Chicago and New York in their prospective industries. There is a lot more, but this is the crux of it.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, but I wouldn’t ask for anything else. I am consistently turned down by coaches, athletes, and individuals to work together, I had my advisor during my master’s program leave for a family emergency, my father died in my first year of business, I’ve contemplated jumping off the 18th floor of the building I was living in, and I’ve moved four times in three years to pursue my goals of becoming a High-Performance Coach. It’s actually really hard for me to come up with “struggles” because I don’t see these as struggles.

I see these as a part of life and situations I needed to happen to help me become the person I am along the way. Since these things happened, I believe in “choosing your own suck.” That’s why I trained to run 100 miles straight, completed that race, and continue to do uncomfortable activities every day. This way, when perceived negative experiences happen, I’ll be ready for them.

Please tell us more about your work. What do you guys do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
The Pazik Performance Group is a High-Performance Coaching and Consulting group that helps take individuals from where they are, to where they want to be. We specialize in confidence, culture, and leadership and have been known for helping teams and individuals help achieve their goals faster and easier than on their own. What we’re most proud of are the relationships we build with our clients. Even after finishing up our contracts, clients continue to reach out and let us know about their successes and failures and almost every one of our clients renews their contract to pursue higher aspirations. What sets us apart from others is our ability to connect with people of all ages. Whether you’re nine years old or 90 years old, we are able to connect on a person level through specific question asking and quality listening. It sounds too simple, but it works.
