Meet Tyler Smith of Dap M3xiko in Birmingham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Smith.

Tyler, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Before I went back off to school during Christmas break, I was working on my own clothing line and I was getting advice from my friends Cee Jay & Devonte Holt on where to start. During the time Devonte already had his clothing line Strapped in the making so before I got ready to leave to head back, I told him to send me a big care package of clothes to sell down there because his threads were dope and I wanted to already start building clientele up dealing with clothes so when I popped out with mine I would already have a market. Any who I left to go back to school in January and caught my first jail charge for grand theft auto and had to sit in jail eight months. During my incarceration, I had a lot of time to think of ideas.

So I made me vision board on paper of everything I wanted to do when I got out and one of those things was rap and have a clothing line. So when I got out, I proposed a partnership with Devonte involving being apart of strapped and with no hesitation, my brother welcomed me in. He and I both know the power I have on people when it comes to getting them to join a wave. We got to work immediately and with a matter of three months we we’re taking over the city. I felt like we needed musical artist to promote the brand as well though so I ended up getting in touch with fredo bang and he started showing us love but that wasn’t enough I felt like we needed our very own strapped ambassador from the city so I decided to try out rapping never have I ever hopped in a studio before this but, I ended up being a natural and now we’re here.

Has it been a smooth road?
One of the main struggles was jail, we’ve had other struggles far as dealing with the manufactures and getting the product on time but, when you have a team such as ours, nothing is impossible we made the best out of every hard situation.

Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about you and your career so far?
Well strappedbrand is basically the business and we’re a clothing line and so much more but, we represent just being prepared for any and everything. I’m known as the face of strapped, also the ambassador, co-founder, and promo consultant. I’m known for strapped and rapping because when we first start promoting strapped Devonte allowed me to promote strapped as if it was my own business and if he was my partner in it but once we got so far, I revealed the mask. I didn’t just want to take all the credit. Although he stressed to me that he didn’t mind, I wanted the spotlight to be on all of us because he works his but off and deserves acknowledgment for that. I’m more proud of the team we have more than anything because it’s not many of us but the grounds we’ve covered in two years you’d think we had a big corporation. What sets us apart from others is the materials we use to make our clothing when it comes to strapped. What sets me apart from others in rap is my diversity and story’s I tell in my rap and the beats I choose. I’m very alternate I have a different ear when it comes to music.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
We made it a good place and that goes far as clothing and music. If they could start anywhere else, I wouldn’t recommend starting in our city first. We can improve by actually trying to support one another its so much hate here.
