Today we’d like to introduce you to Tylor Brown.
Tylor, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I believe the story begins freshman or sophomore year. It was around that time that my friends and I started creating music of our own. After a couple of months of recording sessions in various basements & garages, we decided to start a rap group. Fast forward to my senior year where this group got on stage for the first time. That was the moment we all realized our love for music and the industry. A few months after our first performance we hosted our first show. This was a key turning point. We began renting out different venues around the Denver area.
Giving a lot of up and coming artists from around the city opportunities to try out new material and get comfortable on stage. We noticed that the Denver industry was lacking support for these smaller artists and this is where we could lend a hand in helping. Throughout our time hosting events we also noticed there were not very many media outlets for these same local artists. We began as just a podcast doing interviews with artists that eventually spread to different parts of the country. This brings us to the current state of Awesome Aux. Our mission hasn’t changed. We still look to help local artists grow their audiences and share their work via awesomeaux.com our website and blog. Our plan is to grow our platform so we can continue to highlight local and global talent.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think anyone ever experiences a smooth road. But we had a lot of riffs between us all throughout high school which eventually ended our rap group. Our main struggles were personal ones and problems with our friendships. Around the time the rap group ended Awesome Aux and the main event we host Forever Fest were in their beginning stages.
At this point me and Jalen Samuels (one of the groups’ members) put a lot of energy into these two ideas to ensure they didn’t fall through. The last couple of years we’ve watched our business and our event grow. Over the same period of time, some of the other members of our once rap group joined their efforts with ours. The Awesome Aux Team doubled in size. We learned communication, how to be apart of a team and how to work out issues in friendships. Today the same friends from the rap group all still work together.
Awesome Aux – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Awesome Aux was created to promote artists. We built this company with the intention of building a network or small community of artists. We’ve done this through social media marketing, creating a blog and hosting live events where artists have a chance to engage with one another and fans. I’m most proud of two things our resilience to keep working towards our goals, and the fact that this company wasn’t built for us. It’s a company that was created by artists to help artists that will be coming after us. And as our platform grows the level in which we can help these artists will grow too.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
It took me the last couple of years to come to this but I equate success with happiness. I know that I am already successful not because the things I’ve accomplished, but because of the lessons I’ve learned and how my mindset has changed because of them. This doesn’t mean I’m satisfied because that isn’t at all the case. I just know that if I can’t be happy now with the success I have had, how will I be able to be grateful for the major success that will come to me. It’s all about creating goals and working daily to achieve them. Awesome Aux will be an important media outlet in the next few years and we will help a lot of artists reach their versions of success.
