Rising Stars: Meet Amazing Adventures Written by Anna Panella (Trombone/vocals)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amazing Adventures

The current iteration of Amazing Adventures all started at the 2018 Orpheus Music Fest. Donovan, the leader of the band, had been working with what one might call an abridged version of what we are today, and the band was booked to play the festival. He had decided before going, as one might be inclined to do before going to a music festival, that it might be a good opportunity to go on a spirit quest. Before he knew it, he was sitting on a hillside in Glenwood Springs, completely mesmerized by Adriana’s chemistry on drums and Kevin on keys as they played their duo set at Orpheus. He wandered back to the campsite and kept pondering how amazing it would be to have that sound and energy in his band. At some point around sunrise, Donovan let the old lineup go and asked Kev and Adriana if they wanted to play. Since he looked like Freddie Mercury, the rest was history. With the core of the band established, it was only a matter of time until Bridget joined on tenor sax and finally Anna on trombone and vocals.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Donovan took a huge risk by changing the lineup. The decision to restructure the band was neither premeditated nor sober- but trusting that spiritual, primal urge has since become a common theme in the integrity of the band. It was met with resistance from Ben, the only other surviving member, although his trust and respect for Donovan ultimately outweighed his doubt. Donovan sought out an unconventional and in some ways, impractical group as he rebuilt Amazing Adventures from the ground up-we were largely young and innocent but undeniably determined and aesthetically cool. The road since the revamped band was established has been butter. We only have two rules: don’t play Sundays, and don’t play Sundays. Our attendance policy is that you can miss any rehearsal or show at any time for any reason, no questions asked. Our rehearsals are exciting, welcoming, and fueled by hard kombucha. The environment that Donovan has curated within Amazing Adventures is what makes it all of our favorite bands to play in and share with the world.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In addition to being the primary purveyor of family friendly psychedelia for the Denver Metro Area, Amazing Adventures is also an excellent source of instrumental virtuosity, captivating lyrics, and improvisational voyages. Take a trip into our world with the music video for our new single “Bread & Butter” off of our forthcoming debut album “Burdens of Leisure.” Illustrated by our keyboard player Kevin Cincotta, it is a perfect encapsulation of our vibe.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
We find the fundamental concept of luck debatable. And yet, indelibly, we are lucky to be on this amazing adventure.
