Who taught you the most about work?

Society has its myths about where we learn – internships, books, school, etc.  However, in our conversations with some of the most interesting and trailblazing entrepreneurs and creatives we noticed the biggest lessons they learned about work often came from unexpected sources.  We’ve shared some of those responses below.

Jonathan Knight

The person who taught me the most about work was my grandfather, who was an architect. He showed me that work is more than just producing something—it’s about care, precision, and leaving behind something meaningful. Horst the founder of Aveda and environmentalist taught me how much a hairdresser can do in the world besides just fluffing hair. He also said many times that if you stick to what you love the money will follow. That has proven to be true although there is never enough money chasing me lol. Read more>>

Cris Chacon

My parents. They are both Mexican immigrants who worked tirelessly their entire lives and throughout my childhood to be able to provide my siblings and I the opportunities that they were not afforded. My father. He was consistent. Worked the same job for 40 years. Got up everyday got dressed went to work and came home. Extremely disciplined, never whined or complained to me about his job or work in general. Got to help people everyday but getting them their parts for construction equipment. Read more>>
