Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?

We have had the good fortunate of connecting with Nobel Laureates, titans of industry, rockstars and rising stars across dozens of industries and we have always found their stories about who they were early on to be most fascinating.  Below, you’ll find members of the community sharing their responses to this key aspect of their stories.

Michael Safran

I believe in my true self enough to not let the world, especially a false one, tell me who I am or have to be. I prefer being genuine and honest over putting on masks and disguises. Sometimes this requires stepping away from the world, and why I like going to the mountains. To understand the world one must occasionally go beyond it. Read more>>

I think this is such an interesting question for all of us to ask ourselves. So much of what I have been reaching for the last few years is more about who I am returning to. I was a wild child, born and raised in Shiraz, Iran—the majestic city of poets and wine—where I fell in love with the lush outdoors and with sports, usually playing alongside boys.
