Community Highlights: Meet Sarah Beck of Hayven Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Beck.

Sarah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in Colorado, attending school in Glenwood Springs and playing on my family’s ranch in Carbondale Colorado. There has been a furniture store in the family in Glenwood Springs since 1978 so Home Staging and Interior design have been in my blood since day one. After moving to northern Colorado for college and receiving my bachelor’s degree in design, I knew northern Colorado was where I wanted to be.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think anyone who owns a small business can say it’s always been a smooth road. At least I’ve never met anyone with that experience. I think this quote accurately sums up my experience. “Small Business isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s for the brave, the patient, and the persistent. It’s for the overcomer.” – Unknown

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I founded Hayven Design in 2014, specializing in Home Staging and Interior Design. I have helped successfully stage and design countless homes in northern Colorado and beyond. Hayven Design’s staging has helped real estate agents and homeowners sell their properties faster and for more money than expected. Even in a down market. I think what sets me apart from other stagers is that every stage is customized to the home. I always try to incorporate the unique aspects of the property that may be perceived by home buyers as negative and turn them into positive ones using creativity and design. For instance, maybe the home I’m staging has some colors or finishes that are not necessarily on-trend. I’ll create a custom piece of Artwork to hang on the wall that incorporates those colors in a way that’s appealing to buyers and updates the space.

As far as Interior Design goes, we have successfully designed everything from a mercantile/general store in the country to corporate office spaces in Denver’s trendiest neighborhoods and everything in between. I love it all! I’m always up for a challenge and the chance to creatively bring a client’s vision to life. Home staging is about styling a home that appeals to the most people possible which normally translates to the home seller receiving more money for their home and a faster sale. Interior Design is all about personalization. Creating a home that highlights the people you love, the things you love, and how you live. I strive to create spaces that make my clients immediately feel at ease and at peace, incorporating timeless pieces and finishes that pair beautifully with the homeowner’s treasured photos, keepsakes, and heirlooms. From house to Hayven.

I love exceeding client expectations and I truly enjoy what I do, I believe my dedication and passion are evident in my work.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and are any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid taught me the importance of being able to quickly implement new strategies and adapt, sometimes on the fly.  Zoom, Google meetings, and Microsoft Teams gained importance and allowed me to continue working safely during quarantine. And when that software couldn’t be effectively used, I became accustomed to wearing an N95 mask. Also, hand sanitizer and hand sanitizer spray are now a staple in my life and a workday necessity.

The Home Staging and Interior design industries were not as affected as some other industries by Covid and I’m very thankful for that. The housing market in Colorado was still booming and since people were spending more time at home they wanted Interior Design and home office design more than ever.
