Today we’d like to introduce you to Bailey T. Hurley.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was at home with our first child, balancing being a new mother when I began to feel a message stirring inside of me. I graduated with a degree in rhetoric so I wasn’t new to communicating inspiring messages, but this was different! Instead of writing or analyzing a message for someone else, it was for me and women like me who wanted to make meaningful connections in their corner of the world. The message was how to build, maintain and find the rich parts of friendship with those in your local community. I began to write articles that I sent to a variety of publications and as the message rang true for others, the more confidence it gave me to pursue my own writing/speaking business. I am three years from when I first published my blog with a variety of resources to strengthen and grow a community, as well as, host my own friendship workshops and friendship-inspired products. Watching women walk boldly in their role as community-builders makes my heart so happy! I just try to inspire the simple day-to-day rhythms that every woman can do to find joy, content and belonging in her community.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My toughest roadblock is myself. It’s easy to doubt oneself, the importance of my message and the amount of time I spend growing my business. I am constantly battling this voice that says, “Give up. Your message doesn’t matter. You are not equipped for this kind of work.” I must constantly check my heart and my motivation to know if I should keep going another day. Typically, going back to the source – women yearning for depth in their friendships – reminds me why my work matters and asking them how I can best serve their needs. Those conversations keep me excited and focused on my work. I do have to be diligent with my time and effort. For many, writing and speaking is a business they are building alongside a full-time job. I think it’s important to know what matters most in your business and focus on those few things. You can’t do everything at once and don’t try to do it all. Make quarterly business goals to grow and try new things a little at a time.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a writer and speaker who encourages women to build rooted community in their corner of the world. I am the community cheerleader with a lifelong heart for hospitality. My message speaks to women of all ages, in various seasons of friendship and reminds them how the work of faithful friendships impacts their entire communities for the better.
I think I am most proud when someone tells me that they stepped out and made a new friend, decided to host their own backyard party for their neighbors, or have healed through a friendship breakup because they saw it could be done through my own story/teaching.
I know the community can feel complicated and women often feel stuck in their friendships but it doesn’t need to stay that way. so I offer simple friendship habits to help us build quality, lasting relationships! I know there is so much content out there for marriage, dating, parenting and other interpersonal relationships but friendship can often be neglected. I believe women are hungry for more tips and tools in their friendships and I am honored to provide some wisdom in that area.
