Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb David.
Caleb, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Though much of my background and experience has been in the non-profit world, I felt that there was something more that I could be doing with my career to not only make a living but to create a platform for my passion project – The Table Initiative. Truthfully, I walked into Commercial Real Estate unintentionally when a lifelong friend suggested that I look into that career. I started as an assistant to a broker, then in my first year in brokerage was voted by my peers as the Southern Colorado Commercial Broker’s Association Rookie of the Year. As my career began to grow, I’ve also since served on the board of SCCB and served as the 2019 President. I also serve on advisory committees for Colorado Springs Small Business Advancement (www.cosopenforbiz.com) and ReTool COS (https://coloradosprings.gov/retoolcos). On April 6th, I launched a new commercial real estate firm (Thrive Commercial Partners, Inc.) with three other incredible partners – Sam Cameron, Helen Cameron and Logan Harrison. Our mission is to invest in the future through people and not just create a new brokerage, but to create a culture. My hope is to use my small platform to build relationships between global communities and humanize issues of social justice.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is there ever a smooth road to anything that truly matters? One of the biggest challenges for me was making a full career change at the age of 34, and this was a different world to learn from the bottom up. Some of the challenges I’ve experienced in the non-profit sector are finding ways to connect, engage and advocate for some of the hardest social justices issues in our world, without alienating one “side” or another. I have found seeking a third and better way to build bridges can be brutal and lonely.
Please tell us about your business.
Commercial real estate seems to have a shroud of mystery or even unapproachability around it, but we believe our role is to educate and empower our clients through a very complicated and unique industry. Thrive Commercial Partners was created out of a passion to do things differently, even counter culturally. Our partnership team already had remarkably successful careers in commercial real estate, with over 50 years of combined experience, bringing CRE acumen in office, retail, industrial, investments, vacant land markets and property management. Even more importantly, we share a common goal of living every sector of life aligned with our values, and seeing our clients empowered to do the same.
From fostering a familial team culture to treating every client with respect and kindness, we quickly realized the powerful potential of birthing a company grounded on our mutual values. Our vision to create a company that fully embodied our desire to see people, businesses and communities truly thriving drove us to form Thrive Commercial Partners in March 2020. Thrive officially (and ironically) launched on April 6th in the middle of the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic.
We believe that it’s the intangibles of trust, respect, and integrity that people remember, and that each Thrive team member has come to be known by. Doing the right thing each time and earning (and keeping) trust is paramount to us. We focus on our character and stay grounded to our values regardless of the situation, even when it hurts. Clarity and open communication marks how we serve clients, and we’ve seen how it continually fosters thriving partnerships.
Our team’s core strength lies in the premium we place on each and every relationship, whether it’s a client, community partner, or team member. We love to get to know our clients and are always finding ways to come alongside them to help further them on their journey in business and in life. Each team member is deeply committed to the local community; you’ll probably spot at least one of us at local community events, if not serving in an active
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
It’s always a humbling moment when you can serve a real estate client and know that it’s made an indelible impact on their lives, family and careers. But one moment that comes to mind was when I was able to serve one of my sellers by digging beyond the surface on some title issues that existed for decades and was able to find a way to get this issue exposed and resolved. For me, brokerage goes beyond being transactions alone. It’s about long-term relationships.
In my work with The Table Initiative, some of my fondest and most humbling memories were being a part of reunifying trafficked children to their families in Ethiopia and having tea in the homes Syrian, Palestinan and Iraqi refugees in the Middle East.
