Meet Danielle Jensen of Live Well Occupational Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Jensen.

Danielle was born and raised in Newark, Delaware. She was exposed to neurologically atypical children from a young age, as her older brother has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). While attending the University of Delaware for her undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science, she was employed as a Paraprofessional in the Delaware Autism Program each summer. It was there that she learned about Occupational Therapy and became fascinated with the process.

Danielle earned a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. Her passion is OT, always keeping up with research and learning new ways to support parents and children so they can enjoy typical family activities when there are behavioral, sensory, or motor challenges. She spends several days each week, contracting to area schools. She started Live Well OT to provide therapy without the constraints and restrictions imposed by insurance companies and schools. This allows her to have more time to communicate with parents and other caregivers so they can work collaboratively to support children. Danielle also has a passion for alternative and holistic health. She is a 200-hour Freedom Flow Vinyasa Yoga Certified and Reiki I and II Certified. She often incorporates holistic strategies into her therapy sessions.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The most challenging factor Danielle has faced in her career is moving locations several times – four states in five years! Although it was challenging at times, she grew professionally and personally and feels that her exposure to different Occupational Therapy settings is very well-rounded as a result of traveling.

We’d love to hear more about your practice.
Danielle was inspired to start her own private practice, Live Well OT, by the many children and adults she has seen with sensory differences that negatively affect their participation in daily activities that most take for granted. Her personal and professional experience in working with individuals with autism sets her apart from other practitioners; she is literally in your shoes as a family member of someone with autism. She focuses on sensory integration-based Occupational Therapy (OT-SI) and is excited to take a new training later this year on the Ayres Sensory Integration techniques!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
When Danielle and her husband were packing their moving truck on the east coast to head to Denver, she found out her travel assignment was canceled. It was a blessing in disguise because a few weeks later, she was offered an assignment in an awesome charter school! This reminded her of her passion for pediatric OT, further guiding her to follow her dream of going into private practice. It just so happened that her office space was available in Evergreen last fall, shared with a chiropractor, Dr. Katy Mooberry, who specializes in pediatrics and sensory integration. In collaboration, they provide high-quality care for children with sensory processing difficulties.
