Meet Francisco Estevez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Francisco Estevez.

Francisco, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I always had an interest in photography growing up. I was always taking photos on family trips and when I moved to Spain to dance I kept up with this hobby. Our company was a touring company so I was always photographing our tours around the world.

While working in this Spanish ballet company, I won a ballet competition that allowed me to buy my first semi-professional camera. With this camera, I transitioned to photographing our company dancers on stage and on location. I then eventually taught myself the principles of studio photography and applied combined that with my love for dance photography. My wife and I eventually joined Colorado Ballet and over the past seven years, I have been developing my studio photography and establishing a reputation for quality dance photography in the greater Denver area.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a relatively smooth road. It has been a slow growth due to my own time limitations as a professional ballet dancer. That slow growth has however allowed me to carefully calculate decisions to grow my business and not rush into anything without proper planning.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specialize in studio dance photography. Beyond offering my expertise as a dancer and lending that to my dance photography, I have developed many skills and techniques for delivering beautiful dance images and over the years, this reputation has been growing. My expertise as a dancer, my dance photography style and my expertise as a photographer are what sets me apart.

That said, I think I am also well known for some of my creative shoots such as my body painting of dancers and work with movement and flour
So, what should we be on the lookout for, what’s next in store for you?
My plans for the future include training and hiring partners to help expand the business. I also hope to transition to more commercial work for ballet companies around the world. I currently work with Tulsa Ballet and the Colorado Ballet Academy and hope that I will soon be able to offer my work to other organizations.
