Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Reuss.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up, I used to give neck and shoulder rubs to family around the dinner table for a quarter. They all said I had “the touch” and should go to massage school when I grow up. It wasn’t until I was 20 and wondered what I was going to do with my life. I decided to enroll in massage school and completely fell in love with massage and bodywork.
I graduated as one of my schools top students and had job offered before I finished school. I started out working at a chiropractic office where I learned about structural bodywork and different pathologies, and at a spa where I learned finesse and the art of relaxation.
It wasn’t until the beginning of 2018 that I took a leap of faith and left my job and started my own business. It took me about six months before I finally “found my home” within my business.
Align Therapeutic Bodywork was born from a place of wanting to provide massage that is beneficial for the body and the mind. Bringing the mind and body connection closer together with techniques that evoke deep relaxation, and mental shut off, while also integrating structural and orthopedic massage techniques that address chronic pain caused by injuries, surgeries, pregnancy, or stress.
Bringing two aspects of massage and bodywork together, so they align for the best experience and results.
Within my first year, my business grew over 800%. I quickly went from doing house calls to renting a space part-time, then full time, and being fully booked 4-6 weeks in advance.
I have a deep passion for what I do. If I could do massage for free, I would. I’m not sure what the future of Align Therapeutic bodywork looks like. Growing into a bigger space and bringing on an employee, and finding ways to give back to the community are on the horizon for 2020!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Luckily, the massage industry is booming. Most places have a hard time hiring someone because there is so much demand and not enough people going to school.
With that issue comes an oversaturated market and competition. Learning to trust my gut, invest in myself and my business, and not being afraid to showcase what makes me different, have all provided leaps of growth on my journey of owning a business.
Even more so than “getting clients in the door” (so to speak), owning a business can be a lonely road. Expanding my circle to include other business owners who struggle with the same day to day and big-picture stuff has given me new life and I am forever grateful for those who understand the mental struggle of owning a business.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Align Therapeutic Bodywork story. Tell us more about the business.
Align Therapeutic Bodywork is a massage clinic that specializes in chronic pain relief from injuries, surgeries, pregnancy, or stress. I love helping clients bridge the “mind and body connection”. Whether that means being able to actually “turn your brain off” for 90 minutes, or discover whats causing physical pain within the body, I use massage as my medium to help people level up in their physical existence.
Align Therapeutic Bodywork is different from almost all massage clinics. When you come in for your massage, everything is included. We don’t charge for add ons or upgrades, and we don’t accept gratuity. Things that would normally be a $20+ add-on at most places, like hot stones, aromatherapy, ashiatsu, or cupping, are tools to help me provide you with the best bodywork possible and shouldn’t be considered a luxury.
The fact that Align Therapeutic Bodywork is the only massage clinic to offer such a wide variety of massage modalities and techniques sets us apart already, in addition to the fact that we specialize in chronic pain (the reason why 90% of people get regular massage).
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t necessarily believe in luck, but more so destiny. The location where my office is located somewhat just fell in my lap, and I am so grateful.
Align Therapeutic Bodywork is located in Littleton inside the Littleton Medical Arts Building. When I first started looking for an office, I wasn’t looking for any location in particular- just something relatively close to where my son was attending school.
I happened to find a space that had just became available, 8 minutes away from his school, and in a beautiful area close to the mountains. For the first time in my life, I feel like I have a community because of where I work and live.
