Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Bowerman and Jeremiah Michael.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Paul and Jeremiah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We are outdoorsmen who love to spend as much time as we can in the mountains hiking, fishing, camping and most of all hunting mushrooms. We became very interested in the benefits of medicinal mushrooms and learning how to grow them on our own. The small scale hobby turned out to be incredibly fun and addictive! We couldn’t learn enough about the health benefits and medicinal importance of these unusual fungi.
Medicinal mushrooms are still a major focus of Elevated Mushrooms, Inc. founders. We wanted more than anything to leave our current work to try something new and after years of talking about starting a business, we jumped into the mushroom world.
So far, we are a fairly small operation in Englewood. We take a lot of pride in the effort we put into our growing and educational endeavors and look forward to continuing our success with new products, education and community involvement.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing mushrooms on a commercial level has definitely had its challenges. Fluctuating weather and equipment failure are two of the biggest. Mushroom farming is a seven days a week job making it difficult to schedule time for our passion, foraging in the mountains! As it turns out, not everyone knows how amazing gourmet mushrooms are therefore capturing the interest of the masses has proven to be a bit harder than expected.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Elevated Mushrooms, Inc. – what should we know?
Elevated Mushrooms is based in Englewood, Colorado and specializes in gourmet and medicinal fungi. We are passionate about providing the finest artisan gourmet and medicinal mushrooms possible and we are able to provide fresh mushrooms and dried products in bulk. We can also provide extracts and custom medicinal mixes made with precision and care in our laboratory.
All of the mushroom varieties that we grow naturally inhabit trees. So we are able to grow all of our mushroom varieties on sterilized supplemented sawdust. This process differs from other common varieties such as Portobellos and button mushrooms which are grown on composted materials which may contain animal waste. What this means is that while you should ALWAYS clean Portobello and button mushrooms, our mushrooms do not require cleaning.
You can find our mushrooms at Grow+Gather in Englewood, through the curbside markets at Denver Bazaar, the One Box meal kits at Heirloom catering, and some of our growing supplies at Lions Mane Denver.
As we continue to grow, we are always expanding our line of products. Growing supplies for hobbyists is one of our newest additions.
