Meet whoisROG from Get Busy Livin’ Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to whoisROG from Get Busy Livin’ Studios.

whoisROG, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a 21 year old trini-american producer and engineer born and raised in Colorado. I believe I was always destined to do music as both sides of my family have a love for music, and a few are creators like myself. Since a young kid, I’ve been fascinated with sound and the creation of sound. When I was about 11 I realized my passion for music and started writing poetry. Around that same time, my father got a family computer and I found a program called Garageband for beginner producers. I started arranging loops and listening to different artists to get inspiration. And honestly, my biggest inspiration to this day is Ryan Leslie. His ability to impact a song in so many ways made me want to learn more.

At 13 yrs old I built a studio in my bedroom by hanging a blanket up to my ceiling for a booth and putting a Du-rag on my microphone as a “pop filter”. I would have friends from school come and record, and me and my best friend had started a little record label for other artists to join. Fast forward a few years and I began putting out mixtapes as an artist under the name ROG. I would write, engineer and sometimes produce all of my own music. At 16, I was introduced to the Denver music scene and started learning more about the business aspect. I began producing more, and writing when I saw how many other people had the same exact goals in my city! A couple of years later at 17/18 years old, I started to find my niche as a producer/mix engineer as I interned at many different studios around the city and started to gain supporters of my work. A couple of the people I met along the way at a show a few years back was Mike Mill, and Dre Lane (owners of Get Busy Livin).

Eventually, we started bringing up the idea of having a studio, and over time it started coming into fruition. In 2017, we opened up Get Busy Livin’ Studios in Lakewood, Colorado. And at 19 I was given a chance to be the lead engineer at now one of the best studios in the city. My story is ever unfolding and at 21 I can say I’ve had a great year, working with some of the top artists in Colorado and even having the chance to work with some national acts. In the first quarter of 2019, myself and GBL signed a joint venture publishing deal with Riptide Music Group, and are involved in a lot of the music coming out in Denver right now. It’s a truly a blessing to be able to do what I love for a living and would encourage everyone to pray and take a chance for what you feel can change your life.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think my biggest challenge as a creator is overthinking, and sometimes losing motivation or inspiration to create. I feel like as I get older I’m able to just take things in stride and not get too high or too low on anything.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
Get Busy Livin’ Studios is a life-style brand and studio I’m partnered with as a lead engineer and producer. My days consist of recording/mixing music, I also make beats and sometimes write songs in my spare time. I feel like our dedication to making every client out of GBL sound good makes us one of the best studios in Colorado.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Most would consider my path “good luck” but I believe my connection with God since I was a kid is the only reason I’ve been able to navigate the right way.
