Meet Nikki Hazamy of Rooted Heart Yoga & Wellness in Capitol Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Hazamy.

Nikki, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Rooted Heart Yoga & Wellness was born out of passion and love for yoga and all things wellness. The business formulated itself in September of 2018 when the previous tenants of this space gave notice that they were moving out.

As an advocate for an increase in business and community on the Ogden Block, I felt that it would be the perfect space for a boutique yoga studio and wellness center. The idea quickly blossomed when I called on Kelsey Bednar – astrologer and yogi – to help set up and manage the space. With my business background and her yogic knowledge, we created the Rooted Heart that you see today.

We offer a variety of all levels classes and have created a vibe that has something for everyone. We offer the space to outside yoga/wellness professionals so that they can host workshops here, and we also offer a rotating room that practitioners can rent for massage, acupuncture, reiki, etc. We have four full-time wellness practitioners that can be found on our website, www.rootedheartyw.com.

In conjunction with The Corner Beet next door, I felt this would be the perfect opportunity to connect the dots in the neighborhood for those who are looking for a little more community in Capitol Hill. Members of our studio receive a discount at the Corner Beet and we are always figuring out ways to tie the two businesses together. We host a quarterly metaphysical fair and other markets and events to make the block a destination for people looking for fun, healthy outlets. Rooted Heart is entering year two and we couldn’t be more thrilled to see our classes buzzing with students, our practitioners booked, and a robust calendar of weekend events!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part, its been a smooth road, but building the initial momentum in a saturated market is always a challenge.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
One of the things we are most proud of is the personal touch. Teachers recognize their students and front desk greeters get to know your name. We are known as a space where you can explore different varieties of yoga and other connected modalities. We make wellness approachable and fun.

What were you like growing up?
I have always been the person to mix friends from different groups. I think it has translated in my adult life by bringing a community together and connecting people from all walks of life. I have always taken an interest in team sports and activities that have abled me to be a team leader.
